    Want to sell your blog?

Posted by Bryan on December 5, 2007

The other day, Kristine shared a very intriguing post over at the Outdoor Bloggers Summit. She shared a calculation tool that was developed to estimate the value of a blog. I kept thinking about this tool, and I though, “Hmmm…if a blog has value, can it be sold?” Well, a little search of the internet led me here. It’s a post about a blog that was up for auction. In the particular post I am referring to, the writer gets to the core of what’s behind a blog.

    What’s in a blog?

    • More than a domain name
    • More than a network
    • More than some words
    • More than a topic
    • THERE’S A BRAIN!

I think that a domain, and a network, and words, and a good topic, and tags, and technorati, and google, and links, and all of that other stuff is very important, but at it’s core, a blog is an outlet. It’s an outlet for whatever you want it to be. As Kristine also alluded to in a recent post,  it can be an outlet for videos or music or widgets — or it can be an outlet for your heart and soul.

Most likely, this blog will be a conglomeration of all of the above and whatever else I can find. At the end of the day, I hope you leave this blog having thought a little - maybe thinking a little outside the box - maybe thinking something you never thought before - or maybe even if it’s thinking that I’m an idiot!

People have sold their blogs in the past. Some have sold for quite a but of money.

Clearly the blogs that sell are the ones that have reputations, and a reputation is made up of all the things you listed above. It’s like selling a company, part of what you’re selling is the name, the image and the feeling that your customers (readers) have for your blog.

Bryan, I loke the post! I guess we’re both idiots!

Kristine, want to buy a blog? (LOL) More seriously, thanks for your writings on what I would call “The Philosophy of Blogging”. (hmmm…you could be a professor)

      Jon, I’m laughing!

      Bryan,

I’m kind of more on the selling end of things. Mostly I just like to create content and see what happens.

Still, I have to admit the people that have sold their blogs for millions do get me dreaming every once in a while.

I will be asking for your free advice.
I would like to sell my blog. The name is The Comfort Rooms and the address is http://www.comfortedlife.blogspot.com.
I would really like to have it sold. Not just for its monetary importance (I’m a student), but I would like to sell it instead of just abandoning it. I would want to make a new blog and I thought it would be better to get compensated for the blog that I did.

How am I supposed to sell it?! That’s my big question.

I’m pinning my hopes on you! I hope you could help me out!

      Thanks!

      Sincerely,
      Jerick Baluyot
